Gaetano Donizetti: the first real European musician.
The poor birth "underground village in Channel, one of the poorest villages of the ancient city of Bergamo and the glorious training with Johann Simon Mayr are the first act of a life that has brought the musician Bergamo in major European capitals of music Venice, Naples, Vienna, Paris.
In Bergamo, however, remains the heart of the Master, places and emotions.
In the Upper Town, in a small medieval village, the house where Donizetti was born, privilege location to admire San Vigilio’s hill, which overlooks the town with rests of its castle; the Palazzo Baroque, seats of Donizetti’s Museum and of Musical Library; the Concert Hall; the Church Santa Maria Maggiore in Piazza Vecchia, which takes care of his mortal remains.
Downtown, Gaetano Donizetti’s large monument, in white marble, is in the centre of the small public garden close to the Theatre. The Donizetti’s Theatre, built at the end of the eighteen century, has always been characterized by lyric.
1° DAY
- Guided visit to the ‘musical itinerary’ (Home of born, Museo Donizettiano, Library, Church of Santa Maria Maggiore).
- Lunch at restaurant with typical bergamasca cuisine.
- Free time to have a walk and go shopping around the historical centre.
- Aperitif with music by Donizetti.
- Go back to hotel.
2° DAY
- Guided visit to (Donizetti’s Theatre, walk around historical little villages downtown).
- Pizza ‘Donizetti’ with typical ingredients of local cuisine.
- Sweet souvenir in memory of the Master.
- Free time to have a walk and go shopping around the historical centre.
- Go back to hotel and overnight
